|
 china academy of space technology (cast) signed a us $5.69 million contract with alcatel space for the development of telecommunications satellite payloads.
the contract has been signed in the presence of china's premier zhu rongji, the french prime minister jean-pierre raffarin, some leaders form related department of chinese state council, the president of china aerospace science and technology corporation (casc, parent company of cast) zhang qingwei, alcatel's president and chief executive officer serge tchuruk, as well as the president of asia pacific telecom (apt), chen zhao bin.
the signature of the contract is an important milestone in china and france’s cooperation in aerospace field. it indicates that both countries’ aerospace enterprises will take advantage of each other’s superiority, make strength-strength ally to provide high quality communication and broadcasting service for customers in asia and pacific regions.
according to the contract, alcatel space will provide the payload and its technical service to cast for the high capacity communications satellite platform, dfh-4 platform. the new satellite that will be delivered to apt (hongkong), is tailored to provide communication, radio and tv broadcasting services. the satellite is to be launched by china long march launcher in 2005.

china has been working with alcatel for a long time. china's sinosat-1 which has been operating well for many years was provided by alcatel.
